Abstract: In positive displacement measurement, an accurately known volume is alternately trapped and released and the number of trapping cycles is recorded on a register calibrated in the desired measuring units. Over 40 million gas meters of the diaphragm type currently are employed in measuring gas volumes by positive displacement in the U.S. Of this total of 40 million diaphragm meters, by far the large majority are used to measure gas volumes consumed by domestic residential customers. In discussing Large Capacity Displacement Meters of the diaphragm type, it is first necessary to define the topic.
