Abstract: This class will describe the procedures to be applied when calculating bulk oil quantities (i.e. volume or weight) held in tankage. The procedures follow the calculation methods recommended by the API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards. Other classes at the School will have shown you how to collect the required data, this lesson will show the basic calculation procedures to be followed. Careful physical measurements will be neutralized if the same attention to detail is not applied to the calculations. With present day technology it is necessary to more specifically define the rules for calculating petroleum quantities. If this is not precisely stated in the number of digits to be entered and the rules for rounding, truncating and calculating, then different parties will not arrive at the same answers. With the use of computers and scientific calculators it soon became clear that A x B x C is not always the same as C x B x A and that B x C x A may be different to the other two. This class sets out calculation rules for static measurement together with examples of various types of calculations.
