Abstract: Safe handling of ammonia for use in air conditioning service work is not a subject that can be covered in a twenty minute presentation. so I am not going to attempt to cover the whole field. Instead, I am going to concentrate on the standard. DOT approved, portable anhydrous ammonia cylinder the most basic item of equipment carried by the serviceman. In the past two years there have been seven instances of ruptures of standard portable cylinders, as far as we have been able to determine. Six of these ruptures occurred in open areas or inside unoccupied service van, on the freeway in Los Angeles, as far as we know, no reports were filed.
