Abstract: Since the first gas meter, technical advances, improved material, economics, and energy conservations, the measurement of natural gas has seen many changes. These changes have occurred in both the theory and practices of measurement, as veil as the actual physical meter itself. The first meter, a positive displacement meter, has seen only minor changes which allows the positive displacement meter to measure more volume at higher pressure and is still widely used in the industry today. Expanding from this fundamental meter, the industry has come to a point where natural gas cannot only be measured riore ways, but hopefully, more accurately. The Measurement Engineer now has great opportunities and solutions at his or her fingertips. In selecting a specific meter which is to be used for measuring a cTs+cmer load, the Measurement Engineer should not forget any types of meters. The basic types of meters available to the Measurement Engineer and a brief description of each will be helpful at this time:
