Abstract: Among other uses, the determination of the specific gravity of gases is es&ential in gas measurement by orifice meter, due to the effect of the specific gravity on orifice meter calculations. Several methods of making this determination have been developed over a number of years and are presently in use by various gas utilities and industries. The methods of determining the specific gravity of gas may be classed according to the principles upon which the gravity of the gas is determined, such as: 1. Direct weighing 2. Velocity of flow (effusion method) 3. Kinetic energy of gas (resistance due to fluid friction) 4. Indirect weighing
