Abstract: The proper application of 9% nickel steels to cryogenic LNG tankage service requires a knowledge of their strength, ductility and toughness ai low temperatures. Typical tests performed are the tension lest, the Charpy impact test and various fracture toughness tests. A review of data from these tests shows 9% nickel steels to have good strength and ductility combined with high toughness the cryogenic range.
