Abstract: This paper will deal with basic concepts for the Sample Conditioning System (SCS) components required for the successful operation of Gas Chromatographs (GC). GCs tend to have a very bad name as instruments very difficult to work with. Most of that bad name has been generated by poor SCS design. Is this familiar My existing SCSs have catch pots collecting liquids. If these liquids are hydrocarbons and the GC is making a BTU measurement, then the SCS is removing the heavy end hydrocarbons which will cause the GC too significantly under report the gas BTU value. This can represent a significant loss in a custody transfer situation.
