Abstract: The leakage between lines, especially in wet weather, may cause a pen to go to the top of the scale and remain there. This is due to a breakdown in insulation between the two conductors of the line, and allows a portion of the pulse current to flow continuously. This has the same effect as if the switch at the transmitter were continuously closed. This fault can be checked by inserting a milliammeter in series with the transmission and disconnecting the transmission line from the Metameter transmitter. A current of more than 15 milliamperes will indicate excessive leakage. In the case of open wires, the trouble may be due to a broken insulator, or, especially in a dusty climate,
