Abstract: During the past few years, particularly since the enactment of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act and OSHA, there has been a proliferation of regulations from Federal, State and local governmental agencies which affect utility fleet vehicles, mobile equipment and maintenance shop operations. These regulations are issued or enforced by a new list of alphabet soup organizations which include the following regulations and organizations: DOT-Department of Transportation OSHA-Occupational Safety & Health Act ANSI-American National Standards Institute FMVSS-Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards NHTSA--National Highway Traffic Safety Administration BMCS-Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety EPA-Environmental Protection Agency NFPA-National Fire Protection Association -(plus many more).
