Abstract: An ever-increasing problem facing natural gas distribution companies, municipal government agencies, other public utilities and contractors is the rapid and accurate location of buried plastic pipe lines. This paper discusses the design, development and field testing of an instrument that can locate both plastic and metal, gas, water, sewer and drainage lines and conduit at depths to ten feet.
