Abstract: This brief discusses design considerations for refi ned, multi -product, automated sampling systems. Proper samp ling is an art form, especially in the oil and gas industry. The majority of applications encountered have some sort special condition or unique aspect to the applica tion. Many times this is due to the fact that oil or ga s found in different places behaves differently because the composition is not the same around the world. However, once the hydrocarbons reach the refineries, the sam pling methods used can be much more consistent. Thi s is because the refinery is one of those places in the industry where the hydrocarbon compounds are better known and consistent.
