Abstract: LNG custody transfer procedures for ships, barges, trucks and vapor send out are presented. Specific problems related to LNG instrumentation and procedures are discussed and alternate methods are suggested. Most contract sales of LNG are in terms of units of energy delivered. In contracts between U.S. and foreign companies the thermie. the kilocalorie, and the Btu are commonly used. In the U.S., most companies have adopted the Btu as the unit of measurement. These units of energy measurement pose no real problem by themselves. However, when applied to the gross heating value of LNG, one has to define whether it is the lower or higher heating value, and the pressure and temperature base.
