Abstract: Basically, pipe-joining requirements are to provide a leak-proof joint with the longitudinal strength sufficient to withstand all service loads. Some industry engineers believe that, in order to accomplish this, it is necessary to have the joint equal to the strength of the pipe others disagree. For example the Dutch have used slip-Joints for years with PVC pipe. These certainly will not withstand a burst test or even some service pressures wiihoug being restrained.
