Abstract: The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company has completed a two-year evaluation of the use of light-weight trucks for its Customer Service Operations. Escalating fuel and maintenance costs and changes in operating practices brought to our attention the need to actively pursue new concepts in the design and use of Customer Service vehicles. A test fleet of seven vehicles was purchased fully equipped and placed into service at various headquarters. The evaluation of their performance included initial cost, availability payload, comfort, and maintenance considerations. Our study indicated, and the usage verified, that light-weight trucks are versatile and cost effective additions to our Customer Service fleet.
