Abstract: The natural gas distribution community has accepted the common practice of field-testing industrial class meters (i.e., large diaphragm, rotarys, and turbine meters) using portable transfer provers. Due to their larger size, limited quantity, and higher midntenance cost, utilities have found transfer proving to be a feasible method of testing these meters at their installation. yet have accepted the fact that measurement accuracy in current transfer proving equipment is only +/- 0.5%, at best.
