Abstract: With the discovery and development of vast domestic gas shales in the United States over the past decade, the country now has to decide how best to use a resource that will provide a tremendous amount of energy in the decades ahead. One appealing opportunity is broader utilization of natural-gas-fueled vehicles (a.k.a., NGVs). Vehicle manufacturers are increasing the number of their NGV offerings and the natural gas refueling infrastructure in the U.S. continues to expand. These are two key elements to broader utilization of NGVs in the future. This paper examines the future prospects for NGVs in the U.S. and discusses the measurement challenges associated with refueling NGVs.
