Abstract: The conclusion of a contract for supply of Algerian natural gas in liquid form necessitated the construction of the LNG receiving terminal at Zeebrugge, Belgium. This paper gives an overview of the evolution of Belgiums natural gas supply and of the approach used by Distrigaz S.A. and the Belgian authorities in conceiving an LNG receiving terminal that is located in a complex environment, where harbor trade merges with tourist activities and the day-to-day life of the local population. Furthermore, some of the more important details of the plant and equipment design are highlighted.
