Title: Criteria For Repairing Pipelines In Service Using Sleeves And Deposited Weld Metal

Abstract: From the evidence accumulated through several years of research sponsored by the Pipehne Research Committee of the American Gas Association, and by others it is clear that safe, effective repairs can be made on defective areas in pipelines without removing them from service. The two repair methods evaluated in the various research programs were full-encirclement sleeves and the direct deposition of weld metal on defects.* To insure a minimum of risk in the making and using of such repairs, the following criteria for repairing pipelines in service have been formulated. While it is recognized that the two repair methods can be applied to all steel pipelines, the criteria are intended as a guide for repairs on lines that operate at 40 percent of their specified minimum yield strength (SMYS) or more.
