Abstract: The heating value of natural gas is of prime consideration in purchasing or selling this product in that a considerable range in the chemical composition and consequently a considerable range in the heating value is encountered. The basis of measuring this heating value is the British Thermal Unit. One (1) B.T.U. is defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one (1) pound of water one (1) deg. fahrenheit. The conditions specified may be the standard conditions of 14.73 p.s.i.a. (30 Mercury) for pressure, 60 deg. F. for temperature, one cubic foot saturated for volume, or the same conditions corrected to a contract base.
