Abstract: After years of debate in government and industry circles, a changeover to the metric system appears inevitable for the United States. Many corporations have already taken the initiative, rather than wait longer for definitive government action. The United States is the only major industrialized nation that has not yet adopted the metric system. Approximately 93% of the worlds population, living in countries that conduct three-fourths of its trade, use metric units. Therefore, it seems that the real question is not will the metric system be adopted, but rather when will the system be adopted.
