Abstract: Surveillance has always been assigned a top priority in pipeline operations. Good surveillance is routinely afforded pipelines transferring noncompressible liquids. This is usually accomplished by visual observation of pressure measurements transmitted to a centrally located graphic display. Controllers with intimate knowledge of pipeline parameters and elevations maintain excellent surveillance.
