Abstract: In 1937, in New London, natural gas being served to the school contained:no odor, A leak occurred in the piping and gas migrated into and filled the building. An explosion occurred and hundreds were killed. The Railroad Commission promulgated rules requiring the odorization of gas and testing to verify that it was accomplished. That was Gas Utilities Docket 122. Twenty years passed and odorization of gas seemed to prove itself. In 1958, further odorization rules were passed updating the old rules, omitting some and adding new requirements. This was Gas Utilities Docket 183, which has been the guide or years and everyone is familiar with it.
