Abstract: A prototype modular laser calibrator has been constructed consisting of laser transmitter modules together with associated modular optics. The modular laser calibrator is capable of generating and measuring pulsed laser stimuli for calibration of a variety of laser related components, test equipment, and fixtures. All electro optical and mechanical components and fixtures are housed inside an enclosure consisting of an optical bench and cover. All components and assemblies are mounted so that no alignment or adjustment is required by the user or calibration technician. All settings required in a calibration procedure can be selected by externally accessible controls. Units or components to be calibrated can be inserted into the calibrator or attached to mating ports with eye-safe light-tight adapters coupled to safety interlocks. The system, together with the units under test, is a Class I laser system that can be used in any laboratory or shop environment outside specially prepared laser-safe facilities.
