Title: Theoretical Uncertainty Of Orifice Flow Measurement

Abstract: Orifices are among the oldest and most widely used devices for measuring flowrates of fluids. Some evidence exists that the Romans used them in their water distribution system. Current estimates reckon that over 1 million orifices are functional in the United States alone. The value of fluids being measured by orifices is easily in the range of hundreds of billions of dollars. Clearly, any errors or uncertainties associated with the flow measurement are of considerable concern.
