Abstract: TransCanada PipeLines has been gaining experience in the application of Programmable Logic Controllers (P.L.C.s) in natural gas compressor stations since 1973, P.L.C.s have proven to be sufficiently reliable for even the most critical applications, provided that the failure modes of P.L.Cs have been considered and safeguards against these have been incorporated. This paper presents some results of TransCanadas experience.
