Abstract: GAIN is a consumer-oriented national appliance field observation program, designed to benefit the consumer and the gas industry through increased consumer satisfaction and a reduction in service costs to utilities and manufacturers. The primary purpose of GAIN is to enable utilities to bring appliance problems quickly and accurately to the attention of manufacturers. Two of GAINS goals are the same as those of NAFOP (the National Appliance Field Observation Program which GAIN replaced): (1) improved consumer satisfaction with gas and gas appliances, and (2) reduction in overall costs of service for both utilities and manufacturers. An important third objective of GAIN is to enable the industry through performance and results to demonstrate the industrys interest in, and activity on behalf of, the consumer.
