Title: Calculating Uncertainty Of 1-D Measurement On A Cmm
Author: Nick Zurcher

Abstract: The large M-60 Coordinate Measuring Machine located in the NISTIY-12 facilities at the Oak Ridge Metrology Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is being used to calibrate end standards and step gages up to 1.5 meters in length. This presentation will review the steps taken to calculate the uncertainty of these calibrations. It begins with a practical look at the sources of measuring uncertainty inherent in 1-D measurements on the M-60 and continues with identification of the methodology used to compute the uncertainty value for these sources. The method used was generated using guidance from NIST Technical Note 1297 Guidelines for Evaluating and Expressing the Uncertainty of NIST Measurement Results. Actual measurement data of known artifacts used to test the uncertainty value will also be shown. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONTACT:
