Abstract: With depletion of conventional oil reserves, natural gas is becoming an increasingly important source of energy for many countries. While some of the demand for natural gas can be met by domestic production or pipeline imports, many countries are becoming increasingly dependent on natural gas imports in the form of LNG. One county which is a very potent example of the importance of LNG, is Japan, which currently imports about 97% of its gas in the form of LNG. Imports to Japan, along with Korea, represent 48% of LNG supplied to the world market in 2011. In that year the largest producer of LNG was the State of Qatar exporting 75.5MT or, almost 31% of global supply
