Abstract: The maufacture of many products, both mechanical and electronic, has required continuous development in order to achieve better reliability and to achieve miniaturization of components and assemblies. !PheW3 factors create a need for parts which are fabricated to precise limits of dimensional tolerance. In recent years we have seen the advance of measurement requirements from the order of .0005 inch to where today tolerances of .OOOl inch, as well as 50, 20, or 10 microinches and even less are becoming commonplace.
