Abstract: We demonstrate a method for correcting the reading of flow meters exposed to notfully developed pipe flow. The method is demonstrated with the measurement of the two components of the wall shear stress along the circumference of the pipe wall slightly upstream of the meter. Making use of a physical model for characterizing the disturbances in the flow as caused by installations and a neural network approach allows to correct the reading of a meter (here: Venturi) without having knowledge of the specific type of installation.
