Abstract: Approximately two years ago. Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company experienced two major compressor station fires. For both of these fires, the severity of the damages incurred would have been extremely reduced had there not been a malfunction in the Emergency Shutdown System, We found at that time that these systems, like many others, had been sorely neglected. This, we felt, was due to the rising workload presented by a major expansion of our facilities to cope with the problems of reducing field pressure.
