Abstract: Recent SGA research activities at Southwest Research Institute have provided some interesting new insight into the nature of pulsation-induced flow measurement errors at orifice installations. While confirming the existence of square root averaging error at the orifice taps, this research has shown that conventional square root theory is incorrect in describing this error in terms of flow modulation ratio. A new square root theory has been developed that has reconciled many of the socalled instability errors that were heretofore not predictable and has, in fact, shown the orifice to be remarkably tolerant of flow pulsations.
