Abstract: Gas chromatography is a physical separation of two or more compounds based on their different distribution between two phases, one of which is stationary and the other a gas. The process of gas chromatography works in a discontinuous way, similar to batch distillation. Basically, a small sample of the gas to be analyzed is injected into a flowing stream of a carrier gas and is forced through a column which allows the lighter components to easily flow through the column for detection. The heavier components are also separated and eluded from the column to the detectors in their respective weight order
