Abstract: Chromatography has been in development as an analytical technique since 1905. In that year, Ramsey used selective absorption to separate a gas mixture. In 1906 Tswett separated the colored components in plants on a column and coined the word chromatography. In the 1950s, chromatography was established as a highly sensitive analytical technique. Today various chromatographic techniques are in use in fields as diverse as the medical science and petroleum industry.
