Abstract: The word sphere first appeared in the written English language in 1300. The early concept of a sphere was that of a radius being rotated 360 degrees around a line axis terminating in two poles, see (Figure # 1. A.). The modern technical definition of a sphere might be a three dimensional closed body with all points on its surface at an equal distance from a single central point, see (Figure # 1. B.). There are two basic techniques used for finishing precision balls.
