Abstract: On October 1, 1975, United Gas Pipe Line Company and Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation began what they believe is a first for the gas industry. On this date the first gas custody transfer between two completely unrelated major gas companies, based on a flow computer printout, began. Gas flow computers have been of interest in the industry for several years, and both United Gas and Texas Eastern have used computers in their operations, but until this time, for dispatching and control only. This discussion will present the needs, historical background, development and results of this system.
