Abstract: The balloting for ISO/IEC 17043 Conformity Assessment -- General requirements for proficiency testing ended in April of 2009. The resulting new international standard is expected to be published in 2010. This new standard will impose new requirements on proficiency testing providers, and the organizations that depend upon their results, including bodies that accredit laboratories. Because it is a significant modification of the old ISO/IEC Guide 43 on Proficiency Testing, it is likely that organizations will have a number of years to conform to the new standard. And because it is such a significant modification, no one can afford to ignore the new requirements too long, because it will take proficiency testing providers some time to conform, just as it has taken some number of years for measurement and testing laboratories to conform to ISO/IEC 17025 for laboratories. So get up to speed and learn the likely effects of this new standard on your organization and you!
