Abstract: Temperature is one of several critical variables that must be correctly measured to determine reliable natural gas quantities. This is especially true in custody transfer (fiscal)applications where even relatively small temperature measurement errors can have a large impact on the bottom line. The technical aspects of thermometry in flow measurement can best be applied to practical situations by first understanding the relationship between temperature and the fundamental gas laws. Then, these basic concepts are applied to the calculation of flow as well as the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of measurement equipment.
