Abstract: Prevailing energy shortages have intensified the search for and development of offshore production. Several well prepared papers have been given previously at short courses concerning the problems associated with offshore measurement, The basic problem is location. We often hear the phrase another world when describing these operations. It is another world when compared to the production of East or West Texas or even the marshlands of Louisiana. This other world can be described as a remote expanse of water which can be rough or deep blue and tranquil. It is dotted with huge platform structures, boats , barges, tankers, helicopters, and developing technology and equipment compactness. It can contain wind, fog, storms and excitement. In any order, these factors are not the problem. However, each can be associated with the problems of transportation, weather, structural design, operations and safety.
