Abstract: December 2009, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration of the Department of Transportation amended the Federal Pipeline Safety Regulations requiring operators of gas distribution systems to develop and implement integrity management programs. The regulations include requirements for formal risk assessments and analysis of performance data to demonstrate improvements in safety.
