Abstract: In quality engineering (Taguchi Methods), evaluation and improvement of a system by the SN (signalto- noise) ratio is proposed. Three Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) have been established based on quality engineering concepts. .One standard is on tolerancing rules for plastic dimensions, and the second is on calibration methods for micro-volumetric apparatus. The newest JIS estabhshed in 1991 is on general rules for calibration systems. This paper describes the concepts of these standards together with the background of standardization.
