Abstract: With each new improvement in pyrometry, we note increasing demands for accuracy on the part of industry. While some of these improvements result in greater stability under adverse conditions (e.g., nicrosil - nisi1 thermocouples), at the same time we are learning about more uncertainties in the adequacy of our calibration methods to provide data representative of field conditions. Furthermore, our knowledge of sources of error (and reasons for uncertainty) appears to increase at a faster rate than our ability to guarantee accuracy improvements.
