Abstract: In the past the choice of instruments for making high accuracy AC measurements was limited to traditional laboratory type thermal transfer standards, but nowadays there are a variety of deceptively easy to use measuring instruments ranging from precision Dmms to alternating voltage measurement standards that offer high resolution high accuracy measurement capability. Unexpected measurement results and differences are often encountered because users are unaware of the impact of lead effects and other configuration related factors that these instruments are capable of revealing. This paper explores a number of the error sources and effects responsible, enabling users to rationalizing differences perceived with variety of source and measuring instruments.
